Donatella Versace x REVOLVE: A New Era Begins

By Licence Magazine | Fashion Business

A new chapter is taking shape for @donatella_versace.

The legendary Italian designer is joining forces with @revolve, bringing together decades of creative authority and a platform deeply connected to the next generation of fashion, beauty and culture.

More than a traditional fashion collaboration, the partnership signals a broader conversation about how fashion is created, communicated and experienced today.

For Donatella, creativity has always been rooted in movement. Her vision for this new chapter is centered on a generation shaped not only by fashion, but also by music, film, art, beauty and digital culture.

“I believe creativity should be fearless, inclusive and alive in the world.”

That philosophy sits at the heart of the partnership with REVOLVE. The company’s digital infrastructure, global reach and connection to emerging communities offer Donatella a new environment in which to develop her creative vision beyond the traditional fashion system.

For Mike Karanikolas, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of REVOLVE Group, the partnership represents an opportunity to build something from the ground up by combining Donatella’s creative authority with REVOLVE’s technology and global infrastructure.

Raissa Gerona, President of Brand and Partnerships at REVOLVE Group, similarly points to Donatella’s ability to understand and connect with the next generation as a defining element of the collaboration.

Beyond the runway

What makes this partnership significant is the cultural space surrounding it.

Today, fashion does not live exclusively on the runway or inside traditional fashion houses. It moves through social platforms, music, celebrity, beauty, creators and communities. The boundaries between fashion and wider popular culture continue to evolve.

Donatella Versace has spent decades operating at the center of that conversation. REVOLVE represents a digital-first generation that experiences fashion through a different ecosystem.

Their partnership brings those two worlds together.

A new language for a new generation

For Licence, the most interesting part of this new chapter is not simply the names attached to the collaboration, but the question it raises: what happens when an established creative legacy is given a new cultural and digital vocabulary?

The answer will unfold through the work itself.

But one thing is clear: Donatella Versace and REVOLVE are positioning this partnership around connection, creativity and the next generation — three forces increasingly shaping the future of fashion.

Licence Point of View

Fashion is no longer defined by a single runway, season or institution. Its influence travels across culture. This partnership places Donatella Versace’s creative legacy inside that evolving landscape, creating a space where heritage meets digital culture and where fashion becomes part of a much larger conversation.

At 87 years old, David Hockney remains one of the most influential and prolific artists of the modern era. While many would choose to slow down after a lifetime of achievement, the British painter continues to create with the same curiosity and dedication that have defined his remarkable career for more than six decades.

Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima © David Hockney.

Today, Hockney faces significant health challenges. A lifelong smoker, he experiences respiratory difficulties that often leave him short of breath. His hearing, which first began to deteriorate in the late 1970s, has worsened considerably over the years, forcing him to rely heavily on lip-reading despite the use of hearing aids. His daily life is supported by round-the-clock nursing care, and in 2023, he relocated from his beloved home in Normandy, France, to London in order to remain close to medical facilities.

<img loading="lazy" width="780" height="702" alt="" class="wp-image-945"/ loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530.jpg" srcset="https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530.jpg 780w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530-300x270.jpg 300w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530-768x691.jpg 768w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530-440x396.jpg 440w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530-680x612.jpg 680w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00564642081247738630530-600x540.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" />
Photo Credit: Hockney at his reading table. Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima © David Hockney.

Yet none of these obstacles have diminished his desire to create.

For several hours each day, Hockney continues to paint, focusing his energy on new works and refining existing ones. This unwavering commitment to artistic expression forms the foundation of David Hockney, 25, a major retrospective opening at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. Considered the largest exhibition ever dedicated to the artist, the show celebrates the extraordinary body of work he has produced during the past twenty-five years.

Rather than serving as a traditional retrospective focused on the distant past, the exhibition highlights Hockney’s creative vitality in the twenty-first century. It presents an artist who has never stopped experimenting, embracing new technologies, exploring fresh perspectives, and continuously redefining the possibilities of painting.

Working closely alongside his longtime companion, Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima, known as JP, Hockney has played an active role in shaping the exhibition. Even in recent months, he continued producing new works intended for inclusion in the show, demonstrating a level of dedication that few artists maintain at this stage of their lives.

The exhibition will also feature some of Hockney’s most celebrated masterpieces. Among them is A Bigger Splash (1967), one of the defining images of post-war British art, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Clark and Percy (1970–71), widely regarded as one of the most important double portraits of the twentieth century. Visitors will also encounter Portrait of an Artist (Pool With Two Figures) (1972), a work that made headlines in 2018 when it sold for $90.3 million, setting a record auction price for a painting by a living artist at the time.

For Sir Norman Rosenthal, former exhibitions secretary of the Royal Academy of Arts and guest curator of the exhibition, Hockney’s output over the last quarter-century is nothing short of extraordinary. He has compared the artist’s relentless creativity to that of Pablo Picasso, citing the sheer scale, diversity, and consistency of his work.

What makes Hockney’s story particularly compelling today is not simply the magnitude of his achievements, but the resilience behind them. In a culture often obsessed with youth, speed, and constant reinvention, Hockney offers a different narrative—one rooted in persistence, curiosity, and lifelong creativity. His work continues to evolve because his desire to observe the world remains unchanged.

At Licence Magazine, we believe David Hockney represents something increasingly rare in contemporary culture: the idea that artistic greatness is not a moment but a lifelong practice. His continued dedication to painting, despite physical limitations and advancing age, serves as a powerful reminder that creativity can remain a vital force throughout an entire lifetime.

<img loading="lazy" width="780" height="702" alt="" class="wp-image-946"/ loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935.jpg" srcset="https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935.jpg 780w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935-300x270.jpg 300w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935-768x691.jpg 768w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935-440x396.jpg 440w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935-680x612.jpg 680w, https://licencemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/img-20260612-wa00562318393731811096935-600x540.jpg 600w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" />
Photo Credit: Hockney at his reading table.
As David Hockney, 25 opens its doors in Paris, the exhibition stands not only as a celebration of one artist’s achievements but also as a testament to the enduring power of imagination, resilience, and artistic freedom.
